Our monthly evening meetings take place on the second Tuesday of the month, starting at 7:30pm, and are a mix of guest demonstrations by professional woodturners and club nights. These are usually interactive and a great way to learn.
Some demonstrators operate a sales table where tools and accessories can be purchased.
We also have our own club table where members bring their unwanted tools, wood, magazines and books to be sold to club members in aid of club funds.
We give out news of woodturning/woodworking events of interest at our monthly meetings and via our monthly newsletter.
Halfway through the meeting we break for coffee/tea with the opportunity to chat and catch up with what other members are doing.
We also hold a raffle, giving the chance to win something for the workshop.
We have two large flat screen monitors to project what’s happening by the demonstrator at the lathe and a hearing loop system, so nobody needs to miss what is going on.
At least once a year we hold an ‘All Day Demo’ with a professional woodturner, which is similar to our monthly meeting but with time for more detailed projects to be demonstrated or several projects/items made with more in-depth instruction/discussion.
We run a monthly competition which is themed and has three categories, Beginners, Advanced & Masters, depending on your level of experience and expertise. There is also an open competition which anyone can enter with a piece of their choice.
How We Are Run
Herts and Beds Woodturners are run by a committee consisting of a chairman, secretary, treasurer and five other members, selected annually at our AGM. Each committee members takes on a specific area of responsibility. The committee meets three times a year to review club activities and finances and to arrange the AGM.
